Farmland sales in Estonia
15.06.2024
From 2000 to 2024, the Estonian farmland market experienced notable changes. Initially, sales increased following the joining of the European Union in 2004. The 2008 financial crisis caused a temporary fall but the market recovered in the 2010s due to EU subsidies and increased investments.
By 2024, Estonia’s agricultural land area declined to 983,400 hectares, down by 4,400 hectares from 2023. This decline included reductions in arable land and specific crops like potatoes, which saw a significant decrease over two decades. Conversely, legume cultivation increased, marking the largest area in seven years.
